For those of us just starting on our marijuana journey, there are a lot of names and terms that get thrown around but sometimes very little explanation that goes along with them. For instance, when choosing which strain will best suit your needs you may hear words like Kush and Haze, but what is the difference between them?
Let’s Start with Kush:
Kush is a member of the Cannabis Indica family.
According to existing research, which is further defining strains and their effects all the time, Cannabis Indica is a relaxing and sleepy species of marijuana. It’s perfect for hanging out and doing nothing, or simply going to sleep and is also the ganja most commonly known from pop culture.
Kush is believed to have its origins in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, and northern India. The name “Kush” originates from the Hindu Kush mountain range in Northern Pakistan and Afghanistan.
So What’s Haze?
Haze on the other hand is part of the Cannabis Sativa species, which for many people feels more like an energetic high in your head as opposed to your whole body.
Sativa’s are much more suited for daytime activities as they allow the user to go about most tasks while feeling relief from the greatest plant on earth.
The Haze strains originated in central California and Jamaica.
A Grower and a Shower
In terms of cultivating cannabis, Haze strains generally grow taller than Kush and can actually get to 20ft in height. Haze also can have sweet, sour, or citrus flavours and Kush gets a grape-like taste and smell to it.
Most importantly what about the high?
It’s very difficult to compare an Indica to a Sativa because the effects are vastly different. Generally, Haze has a more powerful intensity than its fellow marijuana strains. Super Silver Haze, for example, is a favourite for those who “wake and bake” because if its ability to rouse the drowsiest of risers.
The great thing about both varieties is that they have many strains available for weed enthusiasts to try. Some of them include Purple Kush, Purple Haze, Hindu Kush, Arjan’s Haze and many others.
