The inventive methods that have been created to cultivate the highest-quality marijuana are truly awesome. Intricate techniques that harness the power of nutrition, production, and harvesting have taken weed to a stratosphere that would have been impossible to predict 20 years ago.
Equally incredible are the products that have been created from this top-shelf ganja. These leaps and bounds forward for cultivation and extraction are due to the passionate cannabis growers who deeply care about their process and final product.
One of those passionate growers is Shhhhhhh. This cultivator out of British Columbia treats their buds to a 3-week, cold cure process, which makes the final product some of the best tasting pot around.
Herbal Dispatch sat down with Emanuel (Manie) Davidson, the Master Grower and Director of Operations at Shhhhhhh to talk about their weed, their extracts, and their unique name.
Can you describe what makes you so passionate about pot? How did you get into it?
I have been growing marijuana since early 2000. My passion for growing cannabis or pot stems from a love of growing plants and quest for information and knowledge.
Growing cannabis is truly rewarding on many, many levels. I am constantly learning more about this industry every day and I am truly excited that cannabis is being prescribed for many medical ailments.
I am also truly happy that I’m able to help friends and family with pain management in dealing with arthritis, cancer, inflammation, and offer remedies that help with one’s quality of life.
There is always room for improvement through gradual changes. First and foremost, I started growing cannabis out of curiosity. Then, I wanted to become the best chef I could be, having full control of production. I wanted to know exactly what went into the growing process from start to finish.
With this information I could tell anyone exactly what my process was and I was now able to give true exact information about what I was ingesting.
Next, my aspirations projected me towards specializing in the highest quality cannabis. Bouquet, flavour, potency and the overall aesthetics of the flower.
How did you come up with the name Shhhhhhh?
Squamish Holdings was going to be our company name. It spells Sh and it became a talking piece.
What products/strains do you currently make and what are your best-selling items?
The current strains we are working with and producing are Bubba Pink, Rockstar and Mango Haze, a high CBD strain.
We have produced a bubble hash blend with Bubba Pink and Rockstar and are now producing a CO2 extraction (honey oil).
Shhhhhhh cold-cures its flower for three weeks to preserve terpenes. Can you please describe this process and what it does for the end product?
Just last year our team and facility adopted a cold curing technique that takes approximately 3 weeks. We found that a slow air exchange and temps from 60-64 degrees Fahrenheit increased the flavour and bouquet. It is also my opinion that the potency has increased.
Cold curing affects the cannabis in a very positive way. This method improves the taste and the aesthetic of the dried and properly cured flower. You also now have your own vape pens, which is awesome. What extraction method do you use for the oils and what strains can people buy?
We have just released the Shhhhhhh vape pen, which is .5ml honey oil with 4 combinations.
Our signature blend happens to be my personal favourite, which is Bubba Pink/Rockstar. Amazing flavour and it rocks you! Approximately 75 percent THC.
If you are looking for a high CBD vape pen we also produce a great daytime Mango Haze. Again, amazing flavour. Unfortunately we have only started Mango Haze in a small test batch so it’s a limited edition.
If you are looking for a straight Bubba Pink or a straight Rockstar, you’re in luck, because we have both. Our pens do not have any PEG or carriers, just 100% plant quality.
Our team at Shhhhhhh is dedicated to creating the highest quality CO2 oil. Uniquely, we also go the extra mile by taking our live plants and extract the terpene profile of each genetic (strain). We then add approximately 3 percent terpenes back into our CO2 Honey Oil, so everyone can enjoy the beautiful taste and flavour of each specific blend or strain.
Where do you see your company going next in regards to your products and growth?
We are trying to build a brand so that maybe someone will see some worth in the future of licensed producers.
We hope that there is some kind of craft (farm-to-table style grow like the small breweries) where people could come in to your shop, see your techniques, and buy from your store.
We aren’t developing our own strains, but have been trying new ones and mastering our technique with them. There is a limit to time in a day for two people to get work done. It would be awesome to have some genetics guy’s help with this but not right now.
As legalization in Canada unfolds, how are you planning to take your rightful place amongst all the regulated products out there?
No one is sure of anything except that the government is going to help big business first. The problem with all that is you need to have passion, and pay close attention to details, that having 100 employees can’t bring.
Small growers will grow the best and don’t need massive spots to do it. People will pay a $1/gram more to get great stuff, not done by Monsanto or massive LPs. There is room for everyone, but the fear-mongering going on is still absurd.
Shhhhhhh products, including their super-potent vape pens, are available now at Herbal Dispatch.
