For some, cannabis is simple. Take the flower, roll it into a joint, light it, and puff away into a blissful experience. But for others, cannabis means so much more. A treasure trove of goodness that provides relief on a molecular level, using every human sense as an entrypoint.
A perfect example of the latter is Stepping Stone Holistic Living. The company has designed an aromatherapy line using Hemp CBD oil and other blends of medicinal herbs. They also have carefully designed topicals and other products, which make them a top-tier contender to dominate as the Canadian industry expands.
Herbal Dispatch sat down with Adelie Houle, the Director at Stepping Stone, to find out more about their process and their products.
What was the catalyst that attracted you to the cannabis industry?
A desire to help people who are on a path to healthy living through alternative forms of medicine, and to explore the potential of specific herbal remedies to relieve certain ailments.
How did you get involved in cannabis aromatherapy?
Stepping Stone got involved in making hemp CBD & botanical products out of a desire to expand the scope of care we offer our members. We wanted to provide alternatives to dealing with pain, skin issues, and physical discomfort by offering products that aren’t THC-based, and also allowed users to feel pampered.
With a big interest in herbal medicine and the benefits of plants, we began our research in order to create a line of topical and medicinal products that are ethical, effective, and feel good to use.
What exactly is cannabis aromatherapy? Can you describe the effects and also the results from your products?
Our topical products are all infused with hemp CBD and botanical extracts.
Products that have aromatherapy benefits are designed to promote a sense of well-being through scent and the topical effects of essential oils. For example, the mint and camphor-based oils in the Headache-Be-Gone roll-on, provide a tingling/numbing effect, which helps to relieve superficial pain associated with headaches/migraines.
The hemp CBD as well as all the botanical extracts found in all of our products are intended to provide localized relief.
Is the key to your products harnessing the terpenes? Can you describe the process involved with making these products?
Terpenes are aroma compounds found in all plants in nature. Although terpenes have been recently researched more extensively, currently the only proven medicinal benefits are aligned with those of aromatherapy.
Our products do contain a terpene component from the plant-derived botanical extracts and essential oils used; these can provide a sense of relief and wellbeing based on scent.
Our topical products are made from a research-based creative process, followed by sample testing and further revisions, leading to a final product release.
We are always working towards improving our products whether it be with higher quality ingredients when available, or improving usability by altering the product, the texture, etc.
Are there any other products that Stepping Stone currently has or is developing at this time?
Our current line of topicals includes a wide range of products, and we also have a line of loose-leaf medicinal herbs/teas, and cannabis & herbal tinctures.
We are constantly researching herbs and their medicinal properties to advance our knowledge and create new products.
What are your most popular products and why?
Our most popular topical products are the Headache-Be-Gone Roll-on, Arthritis Salve and Cooling Gel.
We believe these to be popular due to properties in relieving pain associated with commonly experienced symptoms. Our tinctures are also popular, as they provide a discreet and subtle method of cannabis consumption, while containing a variety of medicinal herbs chosen to provide additional benefits.
Does Stepping Stone have plans to be a part of the licensed cannabis industry and how will that be achieved?
We are enthusiastic about cannabis regulation, and have been closely watching the progress being made on federal and local levels of government.
We are involved in the licensing process and look forward to seeing how Canada and B.C. industries will be shaped by the outcomes of official resolution.
What inspires you the most about cannabis?
We are inspired by the health properties of all herbs and natural medicine. We believe in the benefits of old forms and systems of medicine from around the world, and healing the body through alternatives with a holistic and preventive focus.
Although cannabis finds its place within this spectrum, our focus and passion are a wide scope that encompass a variety of medicinal herbs and therapeutic modalities.
