Let’s face it, there is absolutely nothing like the experience of rolling weed in paper and listening to that sound of the lighter flickering on. As the flame meets the joint, the smell of burning marijuana gently rocks you into the best part of your day.
We get it, you love to smoke weed just as much as we do. But wouldn’t it be great if you could blaze in a healthier and more cost-effective way? It’s only logical that the one thing better than cannabis is having more of it for less money, while saving your lungs at the same time.
Enter the incredible invention of vaping.
It is debated where the practice of vaping first began, but various genius potheads over the years have perfected this technique of ingestion into a fine art.
Vaping is basically heating up cannabis and its smokable derivatives to a temperature high enough that it creates a vapour. This magical mist contains the various cannabinoids needed to enjoy the buzz. Most importantly, this technique does not use combustion which effectively eliminates the dangers that come along with inhaling burning material.
Cannabis vaporizers come in all shapes and sizes, making pot-use easier, more convenient, and way more discrete if needed. If you are looking to replace your smoking a little or even a lot, here are some awesome ways one can enjoy vaping our favourite plant.
1. Disposable Pens
These handy little throwaways have various types of oils and extracts in them. They are designed to be easy to use by simply inhaling and then releasing the vapour. Many of them provide at least 100 puffs and the smell from these products is negligible which allows for discreet usage almost anywhere you need. Try getting that from a burning leaf.
Best of all, if you are a fan of changing things up, when the pen is done just throw it out and try a different one. The products available are becoming endless.
2. Refillable Pens
If you fall in love with one particular brand, or even similar types of vaping products, then refillable, rechargeable pens are the answer.
Many of these products come with a rechargeable battery that simply plugs into a USB port and can attach to various cartridges containing the sweet high you’re looking for.
One of the benefits in buying a refillable vape pen is some companies who sell them know the product needs to last, so they build them to be more durable with less chance of malfunction. That doesn’t mean the disposable ones are built poorly, they are just created to be disposed sooner than later.
For those who are unaware, shatter is a concentrate which looks like sap or hard candy in many cases. It’s a strong product that has become all the rage in the cannabis community for it’s incredible high. Wax is also a powerful concentrate, but is quite porous and usually has a whipped texture to it.
Vaping concentrates like these are pretty much the same as vaping marijuana. There are portable vaporizers that exist which are designed to hold concentrates including shatter, and they heat to a respectable temperature.
The plethora of products available to ingest concentrates is vast. Units come in all shapes and sizes with some that use coils to heat the material up into vapour.
4. Dry Herb
If you still love going old school with a modern twist, vaping the dry bud is a great way to enjoy marijuana.
There are large table top vaporizers, like the famous Volcano, and also many cheaper options as well. These devices are perfect for multiple users or if you just enjoy vaping using a large system. Many of them have removable parts for easy cleaning as well.
If you want to vape the ganja on the go, an endless array of handheld vaporizers exist. Most of the time they have a small chamber made of metal, where the dry herb is packed in and then the user presses a button which turns on the heating element as you inhale.
A great bonus to vaping dry herb is that all the cannabinoids and terpenes are used to make a complete high, as opposed to some concentrates which inevitably remove certain aspects of the plant.
5. C02 Oil
C02 oil is the most common method for vaping a cannabis concentrate and can be found in most disposable and rechargeable vape pens.
The method for making C02 oil is known technically as supercritical fluid extraction. Carbon Dioxide gas (aka C02) is the most frequently used substance for heating up the plant to make the oil, because the critical point for C02 is around 90 degrees Fahrenheit which is not high enough to destroy the terpenes and cannabinoids.
Vaping C02 oil is usually a smooth, effortless process that comes with an immediate high, although the experience can differ from just vaping dry herb as some cannabinoids may not be included in the mixture.
There are many types of C02 oil to choose from and the curious consumer should try a broad range to see what their preferred product is.
Regardless of the way you do it, vaping is definitely something that should be tried as a substitute for smoking. You end up getting more out of your marijuana experience, and in many cases it takes less bud to get high because you’re not burning away much of the good stuff.
If you find that ultimately joints are your thing, that’s fine. Any weed is good.
