Propane Hash Oil is made using an advanced closed-looped system with 100% pure propane under low temperatures resulting in superior retention of terpenes and cannabinoids. Propane extracts less fats and lipids for a safer product that is easier on the lungs.
One of the benefits connected with an open cannabis market, is that everyone who wants to test the boundaries of our favourite little plant is good to go.
As well, those with the know-how who are able to create new products, end up innovating the cannabis space and making a more diverse array of goodies for all consumers.
Case in point is the Pacific Gas Company. These super smart scientists make their products from Propane Hash Oil (PHO) as opposed to Butane Hash Oil (BHO). Extraction happens at much lower temperatures, is cleaner, and the process retains more terpenes and natural oils.
Herbal Dispatch sat down with Tyler, the owner of Pacific Gas Co to talk about their unique products.
From what I understand, Pacific Gas Co invented propane extraction, is that correct?
Yes, we use a propane-based extraction. That’s just one of the many things we’ve pioneered in a way. We were [also] one of the first people to do any sort of distillation. We didn’t go the regular route that most people did and bought off-the-shelf equipment that has been around for hundreds of years.
This product is a very special product. The extraction itself has so many different parts to it. It’s not like most chemistry where you have one or two things you’re trying to separate. We’ve learned how to isolate the cannabinoids, terpenes and [other] active ingredients in a way that is beneficial to the end user.
What is it about your extraction method that make it different other than the propane?
You have a very special plant here with a lot of special properties and in order to isolate them, it just takes a little ingenuity.
What we did was, we built on existing technology. Instead of trying to force old technology to produce the desired product, we went back and just totally took the thing apart and then we built our own equipment.
So you literally created your own custom-made equipment?
You got it. More than anything it comes down to is just asking why. Why do these things do what they do?
“I have a background in organic chemistry, I took it in university many moons ago just because I was interested in it. I didn’t really think I would ever have an application for it, but things happen and it ended up paying dividends.”
So [to make the product] we had to look at what was working and just dissecting it from there. More than anything it’s just being in the lab for hours on end and getting it wrong. It took some time and effort but we created a sound system for extracting the products consumers want.
Can you tell me about some of these products?
We were one of the first people in Canada to start to distill this product called The Clear. It’s just a THC decarboxylated product.
One of the other products we created was something called Medi-Clear Medi-Drops. It’s a 10 percent THC product in organic coconut oil. We do it at 10 percent so consumers can microdose, so you don’t have to be high. There are some people who feel like a high is an adverse effect.
We put it in a dropper, so we usually say start with two to three drops. That’s a spot where, even if you’re not a user, you won’t feel those adverse effects but you will feel the pain relief, anti-anxiety and anti-inflammatory properties.
I’ll talk about another one we created, we are really excited about it. This product is the same THC oil base and instead of putting it in coconut oil, we put it into a trans-dermal base. We worked with a leading manufacturer of trans-dermal base, who originally started out in the sports medicine world.
What it does is, inside this transdermal base we were able to get enough active molecules into that cream and into your muscles and joints. This goes right through the dermis, right to area where the pain is.
Don’t get me wrong, we have recreational products, but this is what I’m really excited about, the medicinal properties of these products.

New packaging soon to be seen at dispensary shelves.
I can see why. These products can clearly help a lot of patients. How do you market them so people know how great they really are?
We were mostly focused on science so for a while there, we were really lacking in the actual physical appeal of the boxes. So we had a group of girls who had also done a line for L’Oreal and they came up with a box design that looks fabulous.
So we focus on the science. Unfortunately in this industry, a lot of people are trying to say that their products carry a lot more of the active material than it does. We pride ourselves on making sure that we have a clean, superior product, and we are very honest about the active molecules in that product. And we are giving it to people at a price that is competitive in the market.
So what is your most popular product?
One of our most popular products is our Propane Hash Oil (PHO).
Propane by itself has got a very low boiling point and it really only wants to extract the goodness out of the product.
We start with very high quality [cannabis], direct from growers, no pesticides. The propane extracts all the terpenes, which is that aroma you smell, when you smell a really good flower. It also takes most of the active molecule, almost all of it.
Our product has got all the active material, the beautiful aroma and flavour, and less of all the undesirables.
It’s also not just about using the propane, it’s about how much you use as well. That’s the proprietary nature too, the amounts you use for each individual strain, so you know that you’re not going above and beyond and stripping the plant of all that goop. It’s a fractional extraction.
What do you see as the future for your company? You know legalization is coming, so what do you have on the horizon?
We are going to be part of the legal landscape when it does come. We’re in talks with LPs that are already established in Canada. [The Government of Canada] has a year to try and figure this out and we’re going to make sure we are complying. We want to be a part of the solution.

Somewhere in Vancouver right now, Pacific Gas Co is taking the greatest plant in the world and making it better by extracting the good materials and leaving the unwanted waste. Through innovative techniques, these mad scientists of marijuana are creating a commodity that is second-to-none, for the benefit of consumers everywhere.

Propane has additives for smell and anti moisture and corrosion resistors do you use a pure propane or just the over the counter stuff. if over the counter , how do you remove the contaminants(effluents)
